Equipment


Thanks to European funding (ERC-2021 Palaeorigins), ArkeoTek has all the necessary equipment to carry out archaeobotanical studies.

  • Stereoscopic microscopes.
  • Incident light microscope (brightfield and darkfield).
  • Hirox high-resolution 3D digital microscope with polarised light (brightfield and darkfield).
  • Hitachi 3800 scanning electron microscope (SEM).
  • Sputter Leica ACE 200.
  • Flotation and sample processing tanks.
  • Reference collections of wood charcoal, seeds, tubers, manure, fungi and carbonised food remains.

This equipment is distributed among the University of the Basque Country’s Gasteiz Campus (Micaela Portilla Building, Lydia Zapata Archaeobotany Laboratory, and George Laplace Laboratory) and the Aranzadi Science Society in Donostia-San Sebastián.
